Information Officers to be appointed to government offices

Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts has revealed that they would be appointing Information Officers to all government offices with regard to the Regulation on the Right to Information from state and government authorities which the President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom launched as a Presidential Decree.

In a Maldives Reform process report issued by the Reform Ministry they said that the main role of this new post of Information officers would be to work under the right to information regulation. Training programs for the Information officers would be held by the ministry from 24th June on wards. A similar program is to be targeted to the media as well.

According to Information Ministry officials, awareness programs are also planned to take place in the atolls as well. All government agencies are required to establish guidelines to process information and announce the details together with name and designation of Information Officers.
