The Department of Information has invited the general public to apply for the Maldives Media Council. The department canceled its notice on 04 November 2008 for application mentioning that the salary and allowances of the president, vice president and members of the council were not confirmed by the people's majlis at the time of that notice.
Notice of the Department of Information states that personals interested to be among the 7 general members are required to file in their applications before the 7th of March 2010 in the form of a letter which indicates their resume.
The Media Council Law states that the council will compromise of 15 members, 8 of whom are elected by Media Organizations and 7 members from public.
Council members will be selected after a ballot taken among newspapers and broadcasters registered at the Department. They will be the 8 members who receive the most votes from media, and the 7 candidates who receive the most votes from the public.
